Title

Unifying the handling of bookmarks and discovered devices/services in Places & elsewhere

Description

This BoF is about consolidating the handling and presentation of

  • (filesystem) bookmarks
  • listing of discovered filesystem-like services
  • listing of locally attached devices with filesystem
  • network filesystem dialog
  • other?

I.e. those things you find e.g. in the Gnome Places Menu or in the file picker dialog. The resulting solutions/specs are ideally not specific to a certain desktop/toolkit/platform, for a consistent user experience.

It should also be discussed how non-filesystem services/bookmarks should be presented/handled, like those to websites, irc channels, pdf/document pages, login servers, etc or services which are not interacted directly with (e.g. printer or time services).
