Workshops & BoFs/2011/Input methods and Wayland
This is a proposed workshop for the DesktopSummit 2011 See all proposed sessions, or the Workshops & BoFs webpage for more information. |
Title
Input methods and Wayland
Description
Currently input methods use mostly not standardized ways to communicate with specific X11 window managers (like for example Maliit and mcompositor in Meego). There are all kind of limitations and workarounds which are required to improve that experience (implementing composition inside the virtual keyboard for example)
With the introduction of Wayland there is the possibility to significantly improve that situation and to provide a much better window management policy than what currently exists.
Some discussion already happened at the Input methods and Wayland in Qt 5 session at the Qt Contributors' Summit 2011. The conclusion after that session is, that there should be an input method interface directly in Wayland.
This workshop should discuss about the current state and work on completing that input method interface in Wayland.
